Household Hazardous Waste Facility celebrates first year of operation

In the first year of operation since opening on May 15th, 2013, the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facility has:

  • Served 4,316 residents
  • Recycled 309,431 pounds of electronic waste (over 154 tons!)
  • Recycled 7,136 feet (1.35 miles) of fluorescent tubes
  • Recycled 681 gallons of motor oil, 142 gallons of cooking oil, and 170 gallons of antifreeze
  • Collected 1,210 gallons of aerosols to process into alternative fuels
  • Collected 2,915 gallons of flammable liquids to process into alternative fuels
  • Recycled 2,895 gallons of pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides
  • Recycled over 4,300 pounds of batteries
  • Collected over 10 pounds of mercury for reuse
  • Collected 645 gallons of acids and caustics for neutralization
  • Recycled 207 compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs)
  • Reused 8,765 gallons of latex paint
